A Leading Provider of High Quality Plant-Based Functional Foods and Ingredients – Interview with
Naturally Splendid Enterprises Ltd.

Naturally Splendid Enterprises Ltd. (TSXV: NSP) is a Company that has built itself around applying advanced technology and science to an increasingly popular super food, hemp. Hemp, a fast growing plant with a long history of industrial use is also a source of complete proteins and omega 3 oil. Naturally Splendid, a Canadian company based in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, has built a company that brings hemp to the forefront of health and biopharmaceuticals innovation.

NAI sat down with Naturally Splendid to get more information about the Company and the opportunities it brings.

Q: Can you start off by giving an introduction on Naturally Splendid Enterprises?

A: We have a vision of enhancing health, lifestyle and the quality of life. Our mission is to be a leading provider of high-quality lant-based functional foods and ingredients giving value to our customers, guided by sustainable principles.

Naturally Splendid is a multifaceted biotechnology company that is developing, producing, commercializing, and licensing an entirely new generation of plant-derived, bioactive ingredients, nutrient dense foods, and related products. Naturally Splendid is building an expanding portfolio of patents (issued and pending) and proprietary intellectual property focused on the commercial uses of industrial hemp and non-psychoactive cannabinoid compounds in a broad spectrum of applications.

Q: Why did Naturally Splendid choose to research and build the company around hemp products? What advantages and/or benefits do hemp seeds have over traditional nutritious foods and supplements?

A: 10 years ago, Naturally Splendid founders Craig Goodwin and Bryan Carson were introduced to a product known as hemp, and at that time it was pretty much unknown to the general consumer. Mr. Carson introduced hemp to Craig, he then gave it to his father who was suffering from many health conditions. Mr. Goodwin saw immediate positive results in his father’s health and his own. This created the passion and vision to start Naturally Splendid and share these outstanding nutritional benefits with the world.  Hemp is considered a superfood and has countless benefits:

  • It has a perfect balanced ratio of Omega 3&6 for optimum brain and cardiovascular health.
  • It’s the most digestible protein source on the planet.
  • It’s a complete protein containing all 20 known essential amino acids.
  • It’s very easy to cook with and incorporate into your diet.
  • It’s packed with fibre, iron, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.
  • Hemp is 100% raw and natural and it is a non-genetically modified organism.
  • We now see the world embracing Hemp and this confirms we on the right track.

We have the unique ability to leverage these parts of the business to vertically integrate within and between to provide our partners with exceptional service and quality products. It’s not easy balancing amongst Industrial, Retail, Foodservice and co-packing opportunities, however, by focussing on the plant derived superfoods category we have a competitive advantage over other organizations that are homogenous in their offering.

Q: How is Naturally Splendid different from other nutraceutical and nutrition companies of similar size? What advantages does Naturally Splendid have over its peers?

A: NSE has the ability to synergize its vertical integration of co-packing, bulk ingredients buying power and market access in a variety of market segments to be cost effective and dynamic in satisfying the needs of clients of varying sizes. We are not isolated to a single food or biotechnology which makes NSE dynamic and opportunistic.

Q: You have strategic partnerships in place in South Korea and Japan. Can you briefly talk about these partnerships and any other plans Naturally Splendid has for the Asian market?

A: We are currently working in South Korea and recently launched products in Japan. We are assessing marketing opportunities in the Asia region and Europe and further penetrating the North America.

Q: What are the sustainability and environmental impact issues with hemp, if any?

A: Hemp is one of the earth’s most ecologically sustainable crops. Hemp is a sustainable, renewable, adaptable resource for food and fiber production. It provides excellent carbon sequestration, and it does not require the use of pesticides, fungicides or herbicides. It’s an excellent rotation crop and Hemp’s root system helps prevent soil erosion. Hemp is currently the most profitable crop for the Canadian farmer to grow.

Q: What opportunities does Naturally Splendid present for investors?

A: Our 7 divisions and a wide range of product offerings present many opportunities for Investors. The global hemp market alone is currently estimated at $1billion USD. The CBD (Cannabinoid) market is projected to hit 2.1 billion by 2020, in the USA alone. The global functional food market is valued over at over $260 billion US and is still growing year after year. The Global Omega 3 and Omega 6 Market Worth $3.21 Billion U.S in 2016. The Pet industry is valued at $60billion in the USA alone, in 2016. Recent global market reports estimate the cosmeceutical industry to be worth just over $35bn in 2016 and the nutraceutical industry was valued at an estimated $180billion 2016 with no signals of the growth slowing down.

The bottom line is, people are investing more into their health and their pets than ever before, and we are seeing the health and wellness markets growing rapidly. Naturally Splendid has offerings in all of these expanding industries. We feel we offer investors a chance to capitalize on these growing sectors through our efforts to further penetrate these sectors.

A combination of food and biotechnology in plant-derived products addresses many societal and human health issues; consumers who are searching for high quality, nutritionally packed foods from natural sources can find them at NSE.
