美國股市4月創出2024年以來的最差表現，其中標普500指數的11個板塊當中10個都錄得今年以來的最大單月百分比跌幅，可謂是一片淒慘。不過，在跌跌之聲當中，礦商和公用事業成為了難得的亮點。
從指數來看，標普500指數和納斯達克綜合指數本月分別下跌4.2%和4.4%，均創出去年10月以來的首個月度下跌。此外，道瓊斯工業平均指數下跌5%，創2022年9月以來的最大跌幅。指數下跌的原因包括頑固的高通脹打壓了美聯儲的降息預期，同時一季報業績表現不一以及中東緊張局勢升級加劇了市場的波動。
從板塊看，房地產和醫療板塊分別領跌8.6%和5.2%。此外，4月美股的超大市值科技股，比如說最知名的“美股七雄”也大幅回落，拖累信息技術和通信服務板塊分別下跌5.5%和2.2%。可選消費板塊下跌4.4%。
標普500指數的公用事業板塊4月上漲1.6%，也是唯一上漲的板塊，其中貢獻最大的個股NextEra Energy, Inc.（NYSE:NEE）、Southern Co（NYSE:SO）、Dominion Energy Inc.（NYSE:D）以及NRG Energy Inc（NYSE:NRG）的股價漲幅均在4%至8%之間。
