Senba Sensing Technology, which makes sensors using polyisocyanurate technology, plans to buy American pressure sensor maker Alpha Instruments for up to USD4 million as it looks to broaden its product range.
The Henan-based buyer-to-be will set up a subsidiary in Hong Kong to acquire Alpha, Senba said in a statement yesterday. The unit will also be responsible for Senba’s international expansion and conducting other overseas partnerships.
Founded in Massachusetts in 2005, Alpha Instruments supplies micro-differential pressure sensors mostly used to monitor slight pressure discrepancies between indoor and outdoor spaces. The sensors require extremely high precision and are widely applied in controlling environmental pollution, making semiconductors and producing biopharmaceuticals and medical devices.
Senba’s existing product line mostly focuses on the optical industry, it said, adding that the acquisition will allow it to quickly expand its provisions as part of a strategic shift toward building a more comprehensive brand. It also hopes to acquire core technology in the pressure sensor field, a sector that is largely dominated in China by foreign firms.
Also established in 2005, Senba at present mostly produces photoelectric sensors for light-emitting diodes, security and electronic goods.
