Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s healthcare unit will work with Xi’an Medical Investment Co. will jointly build a cloud platform to provide services for medical and health institutions in Xi’an, the provincial capital of China’s central-northwestern Shaanxi province.
Alibaba Health Information Technology Ltd. will work with the firm to develop the Silk Road Healthcare Cloud system and aims to tap other urban markets in northwestern China as well as in Belt and Road Initiative countries in the future, the Hangzhou-based firm said in a statement.
The two parties will also jointly build an internet-based hospital in the city to provide online medical services, covering chronic disease management, follow-up visits, health consultation and e-prescription services. They will also establish an artificial intelligence medical innovation lab to research and develop a clinical auxiliary diagnosis and treatment platform.
Xi’an International Medical aims to upgrade its traditional medical business through leveraging Alibaba’s competitive advantages in cutting-edge fields such as internet technology, smart medical treatment, mobile payments, cloud computing and big data. The company operates the local class-A tertiary hospital Xi’an Gaoxin Hospital, which has treated 6.8 million people over the last 15 years. It also operates several medical centers and health industry zones.
