Lyft, LeBron James team on bike-share project

  • Lyft (NASDAQ:LYFT) is teaming with LeBron James to offer free one-year bike-share memberships to thousands of teenagers in economic need.
  • The pair launched the project at a YMCA in Harlem. The Y will help identify more eligible riders between the ages of 16 and 20 in NYC. The free memberships will then roll out to other cities where Lyft offers bike-share services.
  • The project will be part of the new LyftUp initiative that helps close transit gaps through programs like free rides to job interviews or to the polls on election day.

VMware acquiring Nyansa

  • VMware (NYSE:VMW) announces its intent to acquire the AI-based network analytics for undisclosed terms.
  • VMW says that Nyansa will accelerate the delivery of end-to-end monitoring and troubleshooting for LAN/WAN deployments within VMware’s SD-WAN solution.
  • The deal is expected to close in Q1 FY21, and VMW doesn’t expect a material impact on FY21 operating results.

Apple TV+ considers original podcasts – Bloomberg

  • Apple (AAPL -0.7%) has discussed making original podcasts with producers of its Apple TV+ original shows, according to Bloomberg sources.
  • The tech giant is a dominant player in podcasting thanks to its Podcasts app, but rival Spotify has spent over $400M on podcast-related acquisitions in the past year and is ramping up original content.
  • The podcasts could drive more subscribers to Apple TV+, which launched last November with a limited slate of content.

Fintech teams up with Worldpay, Visa for expansion in Africa

  • Flutterwave, an Africa-focused fintech, raises $35M and will team up with Worldpay (WP) and Visa (V +1.6%) in an effort to expand across Africa.
  • The San Francisco-based startup will become the African payment provider for Worldpay clients worldwide.

Lufthansa teams with Google Cloud

  • Lufthansa (OTCQX:DLAKF) taps Google Cloud (GOOG +0.1%)(GOOGL +0.1%) to unify its IT systems and data on processes like crew scheduling and aircraft replacement.
  • The airline group hopes the streamlining will minimize the impact of flight delays on passengers.
  • Lufthansa will use Google Cloud’s operations platform to suggest fixes for flight plans thrown off track by weather or congestion.
