Samsung Electronics Launches AI Health Assistant, Leveraging Ecosystem Advantages to Enter Competitive Red Ocean

Samsung Electronics (SSNLF) announced on Tuesday the launch of a new AI health assistant service, positioning it as a virtual health butler for users. The health assistant can extract multidimensional health data from users’ Galaxy smartphones, smartwatches, or smart rings. At the same time, Samsung also disclosed a series of new features soon to be available on its health platform, with a key focus on critical physiological indicators such as heart rate. The above updates will be made available to users in beta form next month and will require users to opt in voluntarily.

Differentiated Competition: Relying on Ecosystem and Contextual Recommendations

The current market already features similar AI health services from brands such as Whoop Inc., Google’s Fitbit Air, and Ora Health Oy, and Apple is also developing related products. Hon Pak, Senior Vice President of Digital Health at Samsung, stated that Samsung’s solution offers unique advantages, as its health functions can be deeply integrated with the broader Samsung ecosystem. With the help of a built-in personalized data engine, the assistant can read user schedules, travel plans, and other information, and accordingly tailor health recommendations that fit the current context. Pak pointed out that by leveraging data collected from connected devices and users’ real-time status, Samsung can ultimately deliver more personalized and contextually relevant interactive services.

Strict Boundaries: No Diagnosis or Treatment, Enhanced Privacy and Security

Like most fitness devices on the market, Samsung’s AI assistant does not have the function of disease diagnosis, medical advice, or treatment planning. Pak revealed that the team is implementing strict safeguards for related features. To reduce the risk of AI errors and ensure that responses are based on authoritative medical research, Samsung has partnered with institutions including the U.S. National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition, all health features are equipped with privacy and security protection at the software, hardware, and chip levels.

Long-Term Strategy: Patient Data Sharing Platform and “Last Mile” Strategy

Samsung is also building a platform for patients and doctors to share health data, with an expected launch as early as the end of 2026. Pak stated that this platform and the new health features are part of the company’s “last mile” strategy, which aims to screen for health risks in advance and ensure that patients can more easily follow treatment plans formulated by their doctors.

Memory Chip Business Supports Performance, Market Expectations Still Show Divergence

In the semiconductor business, Samsung Electronics is one of the world’s most important memory chip manufacturers, holding a dominant position in the DRAM and NAND flash memory markets. According to Counterpoint Research data, Samsung holds a 29% market share in NAND flash and a 38% share in the DRAM market. Leveraging this advantage, Samsung achieved a significant 19-fold year-over-year increase in operating profit in the second quarter. Although sales doubled and profits exceeded analyst expectations, the market had hoped for an even larger increase. Meanwhile, Citi Research data shows that DRAM and NAND flash prices rose sharply by 44% and 53% quarter-over-quarter in the second quarter, respectively, but analysts expect the pace of subsequent price increases to gradually slow down.
