Ant Financial, an Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. [NYSE:BABA] affiliate, has teamed up with Yum! Brands Inc.’s [NYSE:YUM] KFC to migrate online payments to offline consumption scenarios through a ‘Smile-to Pay’ function, China Securities quoted the pair as saying.
In order to pay, customers will need to face a 3D camera, which will automatically take pictures and scan the user’s face. A screen will then display the customer’s information, and they can complete the payment by clicking a confirm button on the screen.
The Smile-to-Pay technology is based on biometric identification, in which Ant Financial has four years of experience.
Commercializing the payment method should lay a foundation for the application of biometric identification in other fields.
