Tencent Holdings Ltd.’s artificial intelligence lab has inked a deal with Nature Research, a subsidiary of world-renowned academic publishing house Springer Nature, to jointly organize international conferences and to set up a medical research team in the field.

The Shenzhen-based firm will also work with Nature Research to bring out AI-themed special issues of the publication, it said during the 2nd Tencent AI Academic Forum today.

The two parties will convene their first joint event named Nature Conference in Shenzhen next year to promote interaction between Chinese and international scientific research communities and industrial circles, while Nature Research will release a new magazine about AI next year.

It was also revealed that Tencent will soon set up Robotics X, a robotic laboratory, in conjunction with its AI lab. Robotics X will explore the connection between the virtual and real worlds, said Tencent Vice-President Yao Xing.

The two-day-long Tencent AI Academic Forum runs until March 16 and covers AI’s impact in gaming, medical care, multimedia content and human-computer interaction. The firm invited 20 top-tier AI experts to conduct research and hold discussions at the event.
