The local government agencies in Chongqing, a municipality in southwest China, signed 14 agreements with the country’s largest e-commerce conglomerate Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. and its financial affiliate Ant Financial Services Group to cooperate in the areas of intelligent application of big data, financial technology, or fintech, and big data talent development.
Government agencies including Chongqing municipal commission of city management and the civil affairs bureau entered into a cooperation agreement with Alibaba Cloud Computing Co. to jointly accelerate the development of the intelligent application of big data in the city. Chongqing Daily reported. The municipal financial services office and Chongqing Three Gorges Bank Co., a local commercial bank, will also co-found a financial technology innovation laboratory with Ant Financial, the report added.
As for nurturing big data talent, nine vocational schools including Chongqing institute of engineering signed multiple memorandum of understanding with Alibaba to jointly set up training bases in an example of educational institution-enterprise cooperation.
The number of contracts signed with Alibaba Group and Ant Financial indicates that the cooperation between the involved parties has entered a new and deepening phase, said Chen Jinshan, director of Chongqing municipal commission of economy and information technology. Future cooperation will center on economic development, social governance and civil service and will introduce projects in industrial internet and smart governmental services, Chen added.
Headquartered in Hangzhou, capital of the eastern Zhejiang province, Alibaba made presence in Chongqing by opening an office in the city in 2007. Chongqing’s local government signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Alibaba and Ant Financial in January to support innovation in big data intelligence.
Chongqing is one of the four centrally-run municipalities in China along with Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin and the only one, among the four, away from a coastal area. In China, a municipality has the same political, economic and jurisdictional rights as a province.
