Zebra Global Capital, a Beijing-based private equity fund founded by the founder of Qunar.com, just completed raising its second fund. The new fund brings its total asset-under-management to approximately US$2 billion, the firm announced today.

U.S. university endowments, Hillhouse Foundation and Tencent are amongst the key investors in this new fund.

“We are very grateful for Tencent’s and Hillhouse’s support. They have been invaluable partners and really focused on the long-term success of Zebra,” said C.C. Zhuang, Zebra Global Capital’s co-founding partner and founder of Chinese travel service platform Qunar.com.

Zebra directly operates its own portfolio companies and has a highly concentrated investment strategy. Its key investment is Convenience Bee, a technology-driven convenience store business.

Convenience Bee opened its first stores in February 2017, and has now close to 400 stores in four cities across China in Beijing, Tianjin, Nanjing and Shanghai. It uses data-driven technology to select sites, choose merchandise and operate its stores, in an effort to improve operational efficiency.

Zebra Capital was founded in 2016 by C.C. Zhuang, Yilu Zhao and David Wu, who previously founded and managed Qunar.com.
