American electric carmaker Tesla has penned a deal to purchase lithium battery-making equipment from China’s Lead Intelligent Equipment.

Tesla signed a CNY43 million (USD6.2 million) agreement to buy winding machines, cylindrical battery assembly lines and capacity grading systems used in lithium cell production, the Wuxi-based manufacturer said in a statement yesterday.

The deal is a good start to cooperation with Tesla and will enhance Lead Intelligent Equipment’s brand image, the statement added.
