Chinese radio systems maker Hytera Communications plans to build a public security network spanning the entire Brazilian state of Ceara.

Teltronic Brazil, a unit under the Shenzhen-based supplier, won a BRL118 million (USD31.4 million) bid to build the network, Hytera said in a statement today. The firm will also lease equipment and offer maintenance services for four years once it is up and running.

The network will replace and improve upon one built by a rival firm, indicating how competitive Hytera has become around the world, the company said, adding that the leasing and maintenance give the project a long life cycle and will increase profit while enhancing customer loyalty.

The network will be built for public security authorities in Ceara, Brazil’s eighth-biggest state and with a population about the size of New York’s. It will mainly be used by local police, fire-fighting and emergency response authorities, and its success could impress other Brazilian states or South American countries, the firm added.
