Chinese artificial intelligence firm SenseTime Technology, which specializes in computer vision and deep learning, is collaborating with LG CNS, the IT branch of South Korea’s fourth-largest conglomerate LG, to develop a series of AI-powered solutions to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Hong Kong-based firm said in a statement today.

SensePass and SensePass Pro, a smart system for pass and access, has been deployed in 26 entrances at the Seoul headquarters of LG’s LG CNS information technology unit. The system, which has gained local certification, can detect passers-by within 0.3 seconds and remind them to wear face masks and practice social distancing to hold the virus at arm’s length.

SenseThunder, a thermal imaging system that detects elevated temperatures in a crowd, is also in use in the LG CNS building. The mechanism zeroes in on individuals with a fever — one symptom of coronavirus infection — without direct body contact, thus lessening cross-infection risks.
