Chinese web giant Tencent Holdings Ltd. [HKG:0700] and ZhongAn Online P&C Insurance Co. [HKG:6060] have released commercial medical insurance products through the former’s messaging and lifestyle app WeChat to simplify the reimbursement process for medical expenses, online media outlet TechWeb reported yesterday.

The insurance will enable fast online claims through smartphones and is now available in two hospitals in Shenzhen in southern Guangdong province. The service collects claim payments through WeChat Wallet and is available to hospitals and insurers for free, eliminating the hassle involved in connecting the two.

Tencent earlier unveiled WeChat payments for medical insurance in Shenzhen, Wuhan, Xiamen, Chengdu and other cities. The new commercial service means patients with commercial insurance can enjoy one-click payments, making it easier to seek medical treatment and improving patients’ experience while pushing growth in the insurance sector.
