Fitbit holders approve Google buyout

  • Fitbit (NYSE:FIT) says via filing that its shareholders have approved its acquisition by Google (GOOG, GOOGL).
  • The vote was overwhelmingly in favor of the deal, with 415.2M votes for vs. 1M votes against and 1.1M abstentions.
  • Shareholders also approved a nonbinding advisory say-on-pay proposal linked to the merger deal, with 358.8M votes for and 56.3M votes against along with 2.3M abstentions.

ADT acquires Defenders for $381M

  • ADT (NYSE:ADT) acquires its largest independent dealer for approximately $381M.
  • The purchase price includes $260M in cash, with a portio earmarked for paying off Defenders’ outstanding debt. The rest of the total was paid out in ADT shares to Defenders founders David and Jessica Lindsey.
  • Defenders has 2,900 employees across more than 130 branch locations.

Alexa coming to Lamborghini, Rivian vehicles

  • Amazon (AMZN +1.5%) adds Lamborghini and electric car startup Rivian to its partners that will integrate Alexa into upcoming vehicles.
  • Lamborghini will integrate the voice assistant into the Huracan Evo.
  • Rivian will add Alexa to its first two all-electric vehicles coming later this year: the R1S SUV and R1T pickup. Alexa will also join Rivian’s 100K Amazon delivery vans.
  • Amazon also announced partnering with automakers that include BMW and Fiat Chrysler to offer Alexa TV for in-car infotainment systems.

Qualcomm announces new vehicle service, platform

  • Qualcomm (QCOM -1%) announces the new Car-to-Cloud service that helps car companies connect their cars to their cloud for updates and gathering analytics.
  • The product integrates QCOM’s automotive cockpit platform and Snapdragon auto platform with 4G and 5G support.
  • Self-driving platform: Qualcomm also announces the new Snapdragon Ride Platform, a scalable and open autonomous driving solution that bundles the Snapdragon Ride Safety SoCs, Ride Safety Accelerator, and Ride Autonomous Stack.
  • Snapdragon Ride is expected to be available to automakers and tier-1 suppliers in H1 with enabled vehicles entering production in 2023.
  • GM partnership: Qualcomm and General Motors (NYSE:GM) will continue and expand their collaboration on digital cockpits, telematics, and advanced driver-assistance systems on current and upcoming vehicles.

Uber offering city bus tickets in Las Vegas

  • Uber’s (UBER +1.7%) Transit feature is going live in Las Vegas, allowing riders to purchase city bus tickets through the Uber app.
  • Las Vegas becomes the second city after Denver to allow users to purchase through the app. Transit offers public transportation schedules and directions without purchases in over a dozen other cities around the world.
  • Buying the tickets through the Uber app will cost the same as existing ticket options.
