Big-data analytics giant Palantir Technologies (PLTR) reported its second-quarter 2026 earnings after the market close on Monday, with all core metrics beating expectations, sending the stock up more than 13% in after-hours trading. The standout number in the report was the full-year U.S. commercial revenue growth guidance — 134% — signaling that the company is evolving from a government contractor into a commercial software leader in the AI era.

Revenue and Profit Hit New Highs, Growth Continues to Accelerate

For the second quarter ended June 30, Palantir posted revenue of $1.94 billion, up 93% year-over-year and significantly beating the analyst consensus estimate of $1.81 billion. Net income surpassed the $1 billion mark for the first time, reaching $1.06 billion, while adjusted earnings per share of $0.41 also topped market expectations of $0.35.

Since launching its Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) in 2023, Palantir has not only avoided a growth slowdown but has continued to accelerate its expansion. CEO Alex Karp stated in the earnings release: “We have now generated more profit in a single quarter than we did in total revenue in the same period the year before.”

U.S. Commercial Business Becomes the Biggest Highlight

The most eye-catching growth this quarter came from the U.S. commercial segment — revenue surged 149% year-over-year to $764 million, marking the fourth consecutive quarter of more than 100% year-over-year growth. By comparison, U.S. government revenue grew 90% to $809 million.

Karp described the U.S. commercial business as “on fire,” while emphasizing that “we believe it is nonetheless just nascent.”

Palantir’s commercial expansion was equally strong at the deal level: the company closed 220 deals worth at least $1 million in the quarter, of which 73 were valued at $10 million or more and 98 were valued at $5 million or more. U.S. commercial remaining deal value grew 124% year-over-year to $6.24 billion.

AIP Drives Strategic Transformation, Commercial Segment Key to Valuation Rerating

Palantir has long been known as a government and defense contractor, but the ceiling for that business model is evident — defense giants like Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics typically have market caps around $120 billion, a level Palantir has already surpassed. The key to breaking through that valuation ceiling lies in the explosive growth of its commercial business.

The AIP platform integrates large language model capabilities, allowing users to submit queries in natural language and automate tasks, significantly lowering the barrier to using Palantir’s powerful data analytics systems. Analysts project that the commercial segment will contribute 51% of Palantir’s total revenue in 2026, rising further to 61% by 2030.

Optimistic Outlook, Full-Year Guidance Raised Significantly

Based on strong growth momentum, Palantir raised its full-year revenue guidance from the previous $7.65 billion to approximately $8.15 billion, while projecting U.S. commercial full-year revenue of more than $3.42 billion, representing 134% growth. Third-quarter revenue guidance was also raised to approximately $2.16 billion, far exceeding the analyst consensus of $2.0 billion.

Palantir’s transformation from government contractor to AI commercial software giant offers a noteworthy case study for the tech industry — in the wave of AI commercialization, those who can deeply integrate cutting-edge technology with real-world business scenarios are best positioned to capture structural growth dividends in the computing era.
