To ease the heavy administrative burden on doctors and enable healthcare workers to focus more on patient care, Amazon (AMZN) is accelerating the introduction of artificial intelligence technology into the healthcare industry. Its cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), recently launched an AI tool suite for medical institutions called Amazon Connect Health, designed to alleviate the burden on doctors and healthcare facilities by automating tedious administrative tasks.
According to reports, Amazon Connect Health can automatically generate medical records during real-time conversations between doctors and patients, while simultaneously adding billing codes, symptoms, and procedure codes. The tool can also extract key information from existing electronic health records and generate summaries, thereby significantly reducing the time doctors spend on paperwork. Additionally, the system integrates functions such as patient identity verification, appointment scheduling, and management, aiming to comprehensively optimize clinical workflow.
In fact, integrating AI technology into healthcare management has become a consensus among tech giants. Companies like Microsoft (MSFT), Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL, GOOG), and Oracle (ORCL) are all increasing investments in healthcare AI tools. Numerous startups are also actively positioning themselves, attempting to simplify the various cumbersome processes in the healthcare system through automation technology.
As a leading global provider of cloud computing services, AWS holds advantages in leasing computing power and data storage. However, its path in developing application software for office workers has not been entirely smooth. Even with the launch of several AI office software products in recent years, the company has gradually discontinued some of its office products. In contrast, Amazon’s software product in the customer service field, Amazon Connect, has been more successful. This call center software has been widely adopted in corporate customer service systems and is expected to potentially reach $1 billion in annual revenue. Some functions of the newly launched Amazon Connect Health have been integrated with this call center platform.
It is reported that Amazon Connect Health officially launched this Thursday. Regarding pricing, the medical record automatic generation feature costs $99 per month, while the patient identity verification service is billed per conversation at approximately 15 cents each. Amazon has not yet announced prices for other features that are still in the preview stage.
Industry analysts suggest that with the acceleration of digital transformation in the healthcare sector, AI has broad prospects for application in medical administration. Amazon’s move not only helps expand AWS’s influence in the healthcare field but also reflects how technology companies are attempting to reshape the operational methods of the healthcare service system at a deeper level through AI technology.
