Re-defining the Dugbe Gold Project
Recently, driven by rising commodity prices and optimistic global demand expectations, Canadian mining stocks have shown strong performance. Gold prices have hit record highs, silver prices are nearing their highest levels in over a decade, and copper prices are also climbing due to robust industrial demand and supply challenges. Although the surge in metal prices has broadly lifted mining stocks, First Majestic Silver and Hudbay Minerals still possess further upside potential and deserve investors’ attention.
With silver prices soaring, First Majestic Silver (TSX: AG) has delivered impressive results. This mining company, focused on gold and silver production in Mexico and the U.S., had a strong start to 2025, reporting Q1 revenue of $243.9 million, a 130% year-over-year increase, driven by higher silver prices and increased production.
This quarter, the company’s silver output rose 88% YoY to 3.7 million ounces, while total silver-equivalent production grew 49% to 7.7 million ounces. Nearly one-third of the production came from newly acquired mines, combined with steady performance from other operations, pushing mine operating profit to a record $63.8 million.
Despite a 40% stock price increase over the past year (currently trading at $11.42 with a market cap of $5.5 billion), First Majestic remains a compelling long-term investment, particularly for investors bullish on silver’s prospects.
Hudbay Minerals (TSX: HBM), a copper-focused mining company, has benefited from rising copper prices, posting strong Q1 results with revenue of $594.9 million and a record adjusted EBITDA of $287.2 million.
Stable copper production and better-than-expected gold output have driven the stock up 44% in 2025, with shares currently trading at $14.58 and a market cap of $5.7 billion. Hudbay operates mines in Canada, Peru, and the U.S. and has improved efficiency through cost optimization. Recently, the company completed the full acquisition of Copper Mountain, which is expected to significantly boost future copper production.
With strong operational execution, solid financials, and growth potential, Hudbay is an excellent choice for long-term investors.
