As of Tuesday evening Eastern Time, AMD (AMD) shares fell 3.9%, despite the company releasing strong financial results for the third quarter of 2025. Both revenue and adjusted earnings for the quarter surpassed Wall Street expectations, with revenue significantly ahead, and the revenue guidance for the fourth quarter also comfortably exceeded analysts’ consensus forecasts. However, the slight decline in the stock price was primarily influenced by the overall market trend during the same period, as concerns about overvalued stocks in the artificial intelligence sector spread. Short-selling operations by prominent hedge fund managers on peer companies further intensified market volatility. Excluding this short-term market sentiment disturbance and judging solely from fundamental performance, AMD should have received a more positive market response.

Strong Core Financial and Operational Data

In terms of financial performance, AMD’s quarterly revenue increased by 28% year-over-year, and the adjusted gross margin was 54%, slightly higher than 53.6% in the same period last year. Operating cash flow reached $2.16 billion, a significant increase from $628 million in the same period last year; free cash flow hit a record $1.53 billion, a year-over-year increase of 208%. As of the end of the quarter, the company held $7.2 billion in cash and equivalents, with long-term debt at $2.3 billion. At the business level, the Data Center segment showed significant growth, primarily driven by strong demand for EPYC central processors and Instinct MI350 series AI graphics processors. Revenue for this segment increased by 34% sequentially. Client segment revenue reached a quarterly record, driven by demand for Ryzen desktop processors and product mix optimization; Gaming revenue was primarily driven by semi-custom products and Radeon gaming graphics cards.

Impact of the Chinese Market and Future Outlook

Notably, this marks the second consecutive quarter that AMD has not sold its AI GPU chips in the Chinese market. AMD remains optimistic about its fourth-quarter performance, projecting revenue of approximately $9.6 billion, a 25% year-over-year increase, with an adjusted gross margin of 54.5%. This outlook excludes revenue from Instinct MI308 series products in China but still exceeds the market’s previous forecast of $9.2 billion, demonstrating the company’s confidence in demand from other global markets.

Major Collaborations Open New Opportunities

Recently, AMD announced several important collaborations, the most notable being a multi-year processor supply agreement with OpenAI. According to the agreement, AMD will provide a total of 6 gigawatts of Instinct series GPUs to OpenAI’s data centers. The first batch of MI450 chips is scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2026 and will generate revenue then. Concurrently, OpenAI has already deployed AMD’s MI300X and MI350X accelerators in its actual operations. This collaboration structure also includes OpenAI’s right to potentially acquire up to a 10% stake in AMD in the future. Additionally, AMD has established partnerships with companies such as Oracle. It is important to note that the AI hardware market is still in a phase of diversified competition. While NVIDIA holds a leading position, AMD is gradually expanding its influence through technological innovation and business collaborations. Since 2025, AMD’s stock price has accumulated a gain of 58.3%, outperforming its peers and reflecting market recognition of its long-term growth potential.

Overall, AMD delivered an excellent report card this quarter, achieving comprehensive growth in revenue, profit, and cash flow despite challenges in the Chinese market. For long-term investors, focusing on AMD’s solid fundamentals and continuous technological breakthroughs holds more practical significance than overinterpreting short-term stock price fluctuations.
